In 2011, he was signed by the Chennai Super Kings for US $120,000 at the Indian Premier League player auction, but did not play for the team in IPL 2011.
In 2012 season, he played 13 matches scoring 398 runs at an average of 33.16, but could not get a single wicket in the season.
However, Francois du Plessis missed IPL 2013 due to injury but team showed faith in his talent and bought him again in the players auction for IPL 2014 for Rs. 4.75 Crores.
Lets hope that he is fit this time around and can perform well in IPL 2014.
